From the event website:

The BRISMES Conference is the largest annual academic meeting of Middle East experts in the UK. The event will include over seventy panel sessions, a drinks reception, and a publishers’ exhibition, as well as keynote speeches by Prof Lara Deeb, Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Scripps College, and Prof Ussama Makdisi, the first holder of the Arab-American Educational Foundation Chair of Arab Studies at Rice University, and Dr Seteney ShamiFounding Director of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS). We will also host a catered conference buffet on our first evening.

BRISMES 2018 offers an opportunity to take stock of, celebrate and foster innovations in the field. We encourage proposals that take up the theme in original ways, exploring not only new approaches, but bringing different new approaches into dialogue with each other, including across disciplines and across regions.
